Free motion quilt - how to quilt video

I've just uploaded a video on how to quilt free motion style. I am sure it will help you get started. I love this style of quilting as you can do so much with it. I even use it for applique now. I will be adding this sort of thing to my classes and so would really like to get some feed back on it.

Happy Quilting!

Great Lorraine, I value your opinion. My hope is to get many started in free motion because you can do so much with that. It is easier than one thinks once you practice. The key is, always have control of your machine, don't let the machine have control of you. You'll achieve every time if this is the case. Happy Quilting!

Hello Ruth,

I think this video will be very helpful in classes. I am a novice but I also can appreciate how you've added "hints" during the video for the more advanced quilter.

This was fabulous and very informative; I'd never seen this technique but often wondered about it.

Thanks for your comments Nancy Sue and Sandra. I am pleased this is helpful for you. I am introducing more videos in all my online classes to enhance the learning experience even more as the compliment the photos very well.

I have done a lot of free motion quilting but still managed to pick up some helpful tips, especially about picking up the back thread at the beginning. I thought it was a very helpful video to give confidence to those who have not yet tried it.

very good video, but one thing I was wondering...is how to you manipulate the fabric if you are doing a quilt sized double and up? Easy to do free motion on a small piece of fabric, but what about a larger one? And do we trace a pattern on the back to follow?

Rhonda, I usually roll my quilt up. The fact that you don't have to turn it makes it so much easier. I usually work from the front, however if you're doing an all over design, say on a whole cloth quilt, then draw it on the back. Hope this helps!
